Under WIA training services and opportunities are limited. Before a person can even access any type of training services, the customer must access and verify their eligibility to all federal and state grants such as Stafford Loans, Pell Grants, etc. - www.wnjpin.state.nj.us./training/financialaid.html Moreover, the customer must have exhausted all possibilities of core and intensive service before any training opportunities would be collectively negotiated between the case manager and the customer. Never before has such a radical approach to providing services has occurred when unemployment has been at its lowest on a national level. However, the WIA is not only challenging customers in recareering themselves, but it is also challenging staff to deliver services in a totally different manner. Although the unemployment rate in New Jersey hovers in the area of four percent, Jersey City’s unemployment rate is still at seven percent. Therefore, the challenges in the community are very extensive, but the staff is ready to tackle these challenges. Since President Clinton signed WIA in August 1998, the JCETP management staff attended workshops on a local, state and national level. They soaked up the knowledge and the agency is ready to open its doors to the community. Get ready for an exciting ride for the staff and customers are traveling down an unexplored road, but together the customers and staff members will be able to be the pioneers and set the path for those to follow. |
